- Introduce 10-Digit Dialing December 1, 2011 - July 28, 2012
-
During this time, both 7- and 10-digit dialed calls are connected.
You should begin reprogramming your equipment and services with the 10-digit dialing format (204 + 7-digit telephone number).
Remember to include your area code whenever you give out your telephone, wireless phone, pager, or other numbers.
- Use 10-Digit Dialing July 29, 2012 - October 19, 2012
-
If you only use 7-digits (i.e. you do not include the area code), an announcement will remind you that 10-digit dialing (area code + 7-digit telephone number) should be used, and your call is then connected.
- 10-Digit Dialing Becomes Mandatory October 20, 2012
-
Always use 10-digit dialing (area code + 7-digit telephone number) for local calls.
If you only use 7-digits your call will not be connected; an announcement will advise you the area code is required.
- New Area Code (431) Becomes Available November 3, 2012
-
The new 431 area code becomes available to customers when required.
Only new telephone numbers may be assigned the new 431 area code. Existing telephone numbers will keep their current 204 area code.
