- What is MTS IP Relay Service and who can use it?
MTS IP Relay is an operator assisted service for individuals with a hearing impairment (deaf, deafened, hard of hearing) and individuals who have difficulty speaking to make and receive text based calls from their personal computer (PC).
The person using MTS IP Relay types their conversation and an MTS IP Relay operator, then reads the typed conversation to the other party. The MTS IP Relay operator, in return, types the other party's spoken words back to the IP Relay user.
Hearing users can place calls to individuals with a hearing impairment (deaf, deafened, hard of hearing) or people who have difficulty speaking by dialing the MTS IP Relay operator at 1-877-258-5606. The MTS IP Relay operator will ask for the 9 digit IP Relay number of the person you are calling. When the individual is logged into MTS IP Relay they will receive a message alerting them of an incoming IP Relay call. If the individual is not logged into MTS IP Relay the calling party will be given the option of leaving a text message.
Calls placed through the MTS IP Relay Service are entirely confidential. MTS IP Relay operators are professionally trained and follow a strict code of ethics. No record of conversation content is retained.
- Is there a charge for this service?
There is no charge for using the MTS IP Relay Service to place local or long distance calls using a PC. For wireless Smartphone devices all applicable usage charges will apply. Directory Assistance calls will be charged at regular rates and will appear on your MTS Home Services bill.
