Recording
- One-Touch Record Feature
The One-Touch Record feature on MTS TV is not supported on all VCR / DVD makes and models. These installation instructions will be successful only if your VCR / DVD is compatible. If these instructions do not work, you can still record by following the instructions for manual recording.
To Connect The IR Blaster to a VCR:
- Locate the IR Blaster output port on the rear panel of the MTS TV Set Top Box.

- Plug the mini-plug end of an IR Blaster cable into the IR Blaster port.
- In order for the IR Blaster to function properly, it must be placed directly over the top of your VCR's IR Sensor. In order to find your VCR's IR Sensor, you will need to use a flash-light and shine it directly over the front panel of the VCR. The IR Sensor looks like a small red bulb and will reflect when the flashlight is shone on it. Once you have found the IR sensor, use the sticky tape provided to tape the IR Blaster cable to the front of your VCR.
Note:
There are many different models of IR blasters. While they all plug into the set top box in the same way, there are a number of ways in which they might sit, aim at or attach to a VCR. IR Blasters can be purchased from most electronic stores.
Programming Your VCR / DVD Code:
- Turn on VCR / DVD. Physically set your TV to channel 3 or 4 (whichever channel you normally play back your VCR).
- Put a recordable tape into the VCR.
- Press MENU on the remote control. The Main Menu is displayed.
- Use the down arrow button to highlight Setup VCR.
- Press SELECT. An options menu is displayed.
- If you know your VCR / DVD brand and code, highlight Quick VCR Setup. See VCR codes listed in the Motorola User Guide. If you don't know your VCR / DVD brand and code, highlight Complete VCR Setup.
- Press SELECT.
- Follow the instructions on the menu.
Note:
If your brand code doesn't appear or work, try a code for Emerson.
One Touch Record (from your main TV next to the MTS TV Set Top Box)
- Using your remote control, press GUIDE and select the program (highlighted in yellow) and time (and date if applicable) by using the SELECT button.

- Using the blue arrow buttons tab down and select Record This Show. Select One Time, or Every Mon - Fri or Once a Week. A message "Recording request accepted" will appear.

- Record on an Additional TV - Manual Recording
Manual recording means recording without using the MTS One-Touch Record feature.
This example is for your second TV, which is physically set to channel 8.
- Tune to the channel you want to record (i.e. Movie Central channel 211) using your remote control.
- Use your television's remote (not the MTS TV remote) to change the channel on your TV to either 3 or 4. This is your VCR's output channel - the channel that it must be on for you to record or play back a tape.
- Using the VCR remote, set the VCR to channel 8 (the channel you want to record should now be playing on the screen) and then press RECORD.
Notes:
- Once recording has started, you must use the original TV remote (not the MTS TV remote control) to turn your TV off. If you turn off the TV with your MTS TV remote, a blank screen will be recorded.
- To watch another channel while recording, use your TV remote to change the channel on your TV from channel 8 to either channel 4 or 11. To change the channels you will need the corresponding MTS TV remote control (i.e., if you have changed the TV to channel 11 you will need to use the remote control labeled channel 11 to view other channels). If the picture is fuzzy, push the TV/VCR button on your VCR remote.
- Record While Away

- Find the program you wish to record using the arrow buttons.
- When the program is highlighted, press the SELECT button.
- Press the right arrow button once to highlight the Actions button and press SELECT.
- Press the down arrow button three times until Schedule Automatic Tune is highlighted and then press SELECT.
- Choose the option that is appropriate (one time, every Mon-Fri, once a week) using the arrow buttons and press SELECT.
- Press the EXIT button four times to return to TV programming.
- Manually change the channel on your TV (with the original TV remote control, not the MTS TV remote control) to the channel that works with your VCR, (either channel 3 or 4).
- Using the VCR remote control, set up the VCR for the date and time as you previously did prior to subscribing to MTS TV. Except set your VCR to record channel 4,8 or 11 - the channel that matches the MTS TV remote control you use with that TV. (Do not input to record the MTS TV channel that the program is actually showing on).
- Ensure that your VCR is powered off.
- To return to watching TV, manually turn your TV channel back to 4, 8 or 11- the channel that matches the MTS TV remote control you are using.
