BlackBerry Windows Live Email Setup FAQ

What is a BIS?

BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) is an out-of-the box wireless solution that comes bundled with every BlackBerry smartphone device that is activated with a data plan. BlackBerry® Internet Service is an email and Internet service for BlackBerry smartphone devices that is designed to provide subscribers with automatic delivery of email messages, mobile access to email message attachments, and convenient access to content on the Internet.

Subscribers can add the following types of email accounts to their BlackBerry® Internet Service:

  • POP3/ISP
  • IMAP4
  • AOL® Mail
  • Google Mail™
  • Windows Live™ Hotmail®
  • Yahoo!® (POP3 or by proprietary Yahoo! integration protocol)
  • Microsoft® Exchange (using Microsoft® Outlook® Web Access)
How does the email transition to Microsoft Windows Live affect me as a customer?

Customers who use the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) for account management will be impacted. If you manage your username@mts.net email through BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) you will need to reconfigure your email settings by going to www.mtsm.blackberry.com. This process is required in order for you to continue to send and receive email on your BlackBerry smartphone device.

Since the transition I am not receiving email on my BlackBerry? What should I do?

You need to log into your BIS account to re-validate your new Windows Live email account to continue to send and receive email on your BlackBerry smartphone device. Please turn your device on and ensure that it is connected to the wireless network.

  1. On a computer, login to https://www.mtsm.blackberry.com/
  2. In the Existing User section on page, enter your User Name & Password*
  3. Once logged in, select Set Up Account
  4. Enter your Email Address & Password (Example: username@mymts.net and password, confirm password)
  5. Once you have accepted the terms, your email should be set up on your BlackBerry smartphone device.

Once your username@mymts.net email is set up on your smartphone device, you can delete your username@mts.net email from your BIS account.

Emails sent to your username@mts.net email address are automatically sent to your username@mymts.net account.

* If you don't know your User Name you will be required to contact customer service at 204-225-5687 (204-CALLMTS) for assistance.

I want to set up my MTS Windows Live email on my BlackBerry smartphone device. What should I do?

You need to create an account to begin sending and receiving email on your BlackBerry device. Please turn on your device and ensure that it is connected to the wireless network.

  1. On a computer, login to https://www.mtsm.blackberry.com/
  2. Select Create New Account
  3. Once you have read and agreed to the Terms & Condition select I Agree.
  4. Enter in your device PIN & ESN (Instructions to get this info available on set up wizard)
  5. Once logged in, select Set Up Account
  6. Enter your Email Address & Password (Example: username@mymts.net and password, confirm password)
  7. Once you have accepted the terms, your email should now be set-up on your BlackBerry smartphone device.
Will the contacts in my BlackBerry contact list automatically be notified of my email address change?

No, but there should be no service impacts once your email is reconfigured through the BIS site at www.mtsm.blackberry.com. The update in your BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) profile allows for your email to be pushed out to your device.

The contacts in your address book will not need to know of the email address change as they can continue to send email to your username@mts.net email address. You will continue to receive emails from your contacts without interruption. The emails sent to this address will be forwarded to your username@mymts.net email account. In order to recognize the change on your handheld device, you need to make the update in the BIS account so the email will be pushed to your BlackBerry smartphone device.
