What is High Definition Television?
High Definition service delivers amazing picture quality in wide-screen format. When you connect your Dolby® Digital Sound system, it puts the hockey game, concert or action flick right in your home, bringing you as close as you can get without actually being there. Don't just watch the action, be a part of it!
Pristine Picture Quality on High Definition Television
See more of your shows in dazzling High Definition. With a wider view, HDTV delivers an enhanced viewing experience with up to 10 times the picture quality of standard TV. Pictures become razor sharp.
Standard Definition (SD) TV is almost square, with a 4:3 aspect ratio. HDTV delivers much more of the picture, with an aspect ratio of 16:9, it's more similar to the shape of a movie screen in a theatre.

What's the difference?
Programs that aren't in widescreen have to be reformatted to fit regular TVs. By doing so, part of the picture is cut out, or it is panned back and forth to show the whole scene in a program.
Widescreen format lets you see the whole picture the way it was originally filmed.
Quality Sound on High Definition Television
And when you connect your Dolby® Digital 5.1 surround-sound speaker system, you have everything you need to enjoy an unrivalled entertainment experience. It's like the athletes or actors are in your living room.
What is Dolby® Digital 5.1?
When you connect your Dolby® Digital 5.1 system to MTS HDTV it creates a realistic experience that feels like the sound effects are coming from all around you! Dolby® Digital uses six tracks - five main channels as well as a low-frequency effects channel that is used for explosions and other teeth-rattling sounds.
