Framed route customer equipment configuration guide

This quick reference guide will assist you with the TCP/IP configuration required for your computer(s) to work with the Bell MTS Framed Route service when using an MTS provided 2Wire or Pace Gateway.

Note:

The Framed Route configuration on customer equipment is unsupported by Bell MTS. This guide is provided as a quick reference guide and cannot be supported by our technical support or on-site support staff.

Ensure You Have the Required Details

In order to configure the computers on your network for the Framed Route service you will need this information:

  • Usable Range of IP Addresses.
  • Subnet Mask.
  • Default Gateway.
  • DNS Server (192.168.100.254 for Framed Route).

Refer to last page for assistance figuring out the above items.

Accessing the Device

Go to: http://192.168.100.254

You can view certain pages without being prompted for a password, however once asked, passwords are:

3800, 3801, or 5168 Gateway: Wireless Network Key (Noted on side of gateway).

Configuring TCP/IP Properties on Your Windows Computer

Follow the correct directions for your operating system to open the TCP/IP Properties window:

Windows:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Click Network and Internet.
  4. Click Network and sharing Center.
  5. Click Change Adaptor Settings.
  6. Right click the appropriate network adaptor.
  7. Select Properties.
  8. Double click Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4).

You will need to select the “Use the following IP address” bullet and populate these fields. The information required for these fields should be provided to you by Bell MTS Customer Care.

  • IP Address: Populate the field with one of the usable IP addresses.
  • Subnet Mask: Populate this field with subnet mask that matches your Framed Route size.
  • Default Gateway: Populate this field with the default gateway address of your Framed Route address block.
  • Preferred DNS: Populate this field with the LAN Address for your Gateway (Default 192.168.100.254).
  • Alternate DNS: This field can be left blank with Framed Route service.

Determining Your Subnet Mask

Look at the Framed Route address block provided by Bell MTS (Example:205.200.237.0/29).

  • If your address block ends in /27 your subnet mask is 255.255.255.224.
  • If your address block ends in /28 your subnet mask is 255.255.255.240.
  • If your address block ends in /29 your subnet mask is 255.255.255.248.
Determining Your Default Gateway
  1. Take the Framed Route address block provided by Bell MTS (Example:205.200.237.0/29).
  2. Drop the /27, /28, or /29, Leaving 205.200.237.0.
  3. Increment the last number by 1, Your Default Gateway would be: 205.200.237.1.

Note:

This address has been pre-programmed into your Bell MTS Gateway to allow communication with the Framed Route.

Determining Your First Usable IP Address
  1. Take the Framed Route address block provided by Bell MTS (Example:205.200.237.0/29).
  2. Drop the /27, /28, or /29, Leaving 205.200.237.0.
  • If you have a /27, 205.200.237.2 would be the first of 29 usable addresses.
  • If you have a /28, 205.200.237.2 would be the first of 13 usable addresses.
  • If you have a /29, 205.200.237.2 would be the first of 5 usable addresses.
DNS Server

With Framed Route service the LAN IP address of your Gateway is the DNS Server.

By default this should be: 192.168.100.254.
